Get close and personal with the wild side of Puerto Rico and have a fantastic time with your family at the Mayaguez Zoo. The zoo is managed by the Compañia of Parques Nacionales. The zoo contains a nice selection of animals which are divided into two groups which are the African Forest and the African Savannah. The zoo was recently renovated and it is very well kept. It is almost like being at a tropical garden or jungle.

"Very nice!"

PREXPLORE from Ponce, Puerto Rico
User Comments: The Mayaguez Zoo actually surpassed our expectations. Living in Puerto Rico, I have only been here once quite a few years ago. The zoo right now is a very good location with a great variety of animals and a nice environment. Actually it looked very clean and matained. A note of caution tho: make sure you go to the zoo in the morning. Most of the year it rains in the zoo, and if it rains and you are not able to enter the zoo you will not get your money back. About 30 seconds after we arrived at the zoo it started pouring, we didn't even make it pass the entrance, and we had to wrestle for a rain-check. So make sure you check your weather forecast before you go.

SeaWorld Orlando is a theme park, and marine-life based zoological park, in Orlando, Florida. It is owned and operated by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, a subsidiary of The Blackstone Group. When combined with its neighbor Discovery Cove and Aquatica, it forms Seaworld Parks and Resorts Orlando, an entertainment complex consisting of the three parks and many neighboring hotels and eateries.
In 2010, SeaWorld Orlando hosted an estimated 5.1 million guests, ranking it the ninth-most visited amusement park in the United States.[2] However, SeaWorld's owners have challenged the estimated figures in the past; in 2007, the estimate was 5.8 million guests, while the park's internal data, normally not released to the public, was closer to 6.2 million guests.[3] A spokesperson for then-owner Busch Entertainment Corporation disagreed with the report, saying, "They are wrong across the board.

“Eternally appealing”, this International Drive “family destination” has “a little bit of everything”, from “entertaining shows” and “awesome coasters” to “wonderful” “up-close” animal encounters and some of the “best sea life exhibitions on the planet”; “staffers never tire of answering questions” and the “calm, civilized environment” is another plus, so fans deem it a “perfect escape.”

Sea World has something for everyone. I love taking my child to see the different kind of water animal. As adults getting to ride the ride and so forth has been great. Their themes are right on for the occasion. Their food on the other hand needs improvement.

Park "opens" at 9am, but no animal exhibits until at least 10. But you can buy stuff until then. Long lines getting in, security bag check? Park is small, everyone going to same place at once. Everything marketed to little kids. Shark tunnel not worth it. No big sharks and there was a loud alarm going off the entire time :( There was no one there to tell or to ask questions. No polar bears at Wild Arctic :( Person said they "walked around" the entire exhibit and that you just had to look for them??? SeaWorld should be upfront about which animals/exhibits are available. NOT worth the price of admission

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park, formerly known as the San Diego Wild Animal Park, is a 1,800 acres (730 ha) zoo in the San Pasqual Valley area of San Diego, California, near Escondido. It is one of the largest tourist attractions in San Diego County. The park houses a large array of wild and endangered animals including species from the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Australia. The park is in a semi-arid environment and one of its most notable features is the Africa Tram which explores the expansive African exhibits. These free-range enclosures house such animals as antelopes, giraffes, buffalo, cranes, and rhinos. The park is also noted for its California condor breeding program, the most successful such program in the United States.
The park, visited by 2 million people annually, houses over 2,600 animals representing more than 300 species, as well as 3,500 plant species.[4]
Depending on the season, the park has about 400 to 600 employees. The park is also Southern California's quarantine center for zoo animals imported into the United States through San Diego.
The park has the world's largest veterinary hospital. Next door to the hospital is the Institute for Conservation Research which holds the park's Frozen Zoo.
Both the park and the San Diego Zoo are run by the Zoological Society of San Diego. The park is 32 miles (51 km) away from the zoo, at 15500 San Pasqual Valley Road east of Escondido, California, along California State Route 78.

More than 4,000 creatures reside at this celebrated zoo, started in 1916 and run by the Zoological Society of San Diego. In the early days, the zoo's founder, Dr. Harry Wegeforth, traveled around the world and bartered native Southwestern animals such as rattlesnakes and sea lions for more exotic species. The zoo is also an accredited botanical garden, lavished with more than 1 million plants on its 1,900 acres; 'Dr. Harry' brought home flora from every location where he acquired animals, ens... More

Good zoo, well tended animals with plenty of space. Like the San Diego Zoo, a little too much emphasis on birds. Zoo layout is somewhat difficult - many interconnected loops, often require you to retrace your steps to get to the next section. "Natural" enclosures make for very poor views for children in strollers. In one area, the designated viewing was literally at the bottom of a 5 foot tall earthen wall. As an adult, I could barely see over. There are many places like this, or with nearly solid wood railings, that require constantly getting kids out of strollers to hold them up to see.

Ape Conservation in Africa
Wild gorillas and chimpanzees are on the brink of extinction. Habitat loss and poaching threaten these magnifcent animals like never before.
Ape Action Africa is committed to ape conservation in Africa - protecting Cameroon’s great apes through direct action, including rescuing orphaned gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys, giving them a safe forest sanctuary home where they can live with their own kind.

CWAF and Ape Action Africa
Many of you will be familiar with our project as the Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund – CWAF.
CWAF was established in 1996 as a UK charity and its primary objective was to improve living conditions for prrimates housed at Mvog Betsi Zoo in Yaounde, Cameroon. During 12 years of operation, CWAF expanded its mission significantly to provide sanctuary for wild orphans of the illegal bushmeat and pet trades in Cameroon.

CWAF has meant a lot over the years to our dedicated staff and supporters, but we took the decision in 2009 to move forward with a name that reflected our commitment to great ape protection and aligned us more closely with our goals:
Ape...to provide sanctuary for individual, endangered primates orphaned by the illegal bushmeat and pet trades
Action...to actively rescue orphaned primates, providing rehabilitation and long term care in a protected environment.
Africa...to work closely with the Cameroonian people to protect their natural heritage through education and social support.

We are very positive about the future and look forward to the new opportunities we have to increase awareness about the plight of great apes and raise vital funds for our long term work in Cameroon.

Cote d'Ivoire

Abidjan Zoo

Zoo d'Abidjan, Route du Zoo, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

Abidjan Zoo is the National Zoo of Cote D’Ivoire formerly known as the Ivory Coast. The Zoo is currently being rehabilitated through a project initiated by the Association Du Calao  www.calao-africa.org,  and facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Association-du-Calao-asbl/153666978035212. which is a small but very active and proactive Conservation group.  Richard Champion, a zoologist from the UK, is with the help of a great network of experts and volunteers, helping to rebuild the zoo.

The zoo, animals and staff has been through difficult times due to the civil war in 2011. The zoo has an amazing range of animals, with many of great conservation importance, set in a beautiful environment. The zoo has Forest Elephant, Pygmy Hippo, West African Chimpanzee, Leopard, Hyena, Forest Buffalo, Civet, and genets, Mangebeys, Slender Snout Crocodiles, along with other primates, birds, and reptiles. The zoo is also building one of the best natural elephant enclosures there is, alongside other developments. The zoo is a developing zoo, and all the work is done sustainably and on small budgets, with the main focus to improve the lives of the animals, education of visitors and with a long term conservation purpose.

Abidjan Zoo, located at the edge of Deux Plateaux - Cocody was first created as a private Zoo in, it is believed 1930, but was given to the State of Cote d'Ivoire in 1972, and opened to the general public in 1973.  At that time the price of entry was 300 F CFA, and remains 300 F CFA to this day.  Whilst the price of entry may not have increased, it is a very sad fact of the recent political/social/military/economic turmoil, starting with the Coup d'Etat of December 1999, through the various, and many, "evenements" that lead up to the "Battle for Abidjan" in April 2011, that the Zoo population has declined from over 500 animals and 53 species, down to 170 animals and 24 species. Unfortunately all the carnivores died of starvation during the battle (with the exception of the Spotted Hyenas), because the meat supplied from the Vridi Abattoir, some 10 kilometres away, could not be brought to the Zoo.
However, a new lease of life has been given to the Zoo, thanks to the efforts of a large group of national and international volunteers, guided by a Luxembourg based NGO Association du Calao (find it in Facebook), and aided financially by the Swiss and Ivoirian governments.  A new lion enclosure is to be built, and the chimpanzee quarters improved.
The Zoo is looking clean, the animals are looking well fed, and well looked after.  There is a spectacular collection of a rare West African Crocodile, the mecistops cataphractus more commonly known as the Slender Snouted Crocodile.  There is a female Forest Elephant, named CAN, born the day that the Ivoirian National Football Team (aka "The Elephants") beat the favourites, Senegal, in Dakar, Senegal in 1992.  The late President Felix Houphouet-Boigny donated the elephant to the zoo.
CAN a 20 year old female Forest Elephant
There are a number of other animals, indiginous to Cote d'Ivoire, including several species of monkey, tortoise, antelope, etc
Guib Harnacher or Bushbuck
There is a substantial collection of chimpanzees, ranging from two year old orphans, right up to a 40 year old grandmother (Judith)
